How To Analyse The Therapeutic Functions Of The Various Decoctions Part Thirty Seven

Hey, I'm back to discuss the next new topic:
  • Kidney's deficiency
What are the causes and its remedy as a result of prolong coughing.  And let's start with some TCM fundalmentals revision, i.e. the definition of Kidney's deficiency.

Kidney's deficiency

is divided into 2 types, namely;

  • Kidney's Yin deficiency
  • Kidney's Yang deficiency

These are the typical characteristic of 2 opposite deficiencies and not every symptoms would take place together.  However, the symptoms should be very obvious and would keep on recurring.  Therefore I've compiled the comprehensive symptoms below and would need a separate blog to discuss the individual symptom later on an 'as and when necessary' basis.  The discussion on how to analyse the Therapeutic Functions Of The Various Decoctions is shifted to the next blog.

  1. Slightly Hot area in the palm and sole
  2. Cardiac anxiety and insomnia
  3. Flushing around the cheek bone

  8. Insomnia and forgetfulness

Kidney's Yang Deficiency

  • Pale, fat tongue with white coating,
  • Weak and late pulse.
  • Impotence and premature ejaculation in men,
  • Infertility in women due to cold uterus;

Nevertheless, I've digest this list to make them easier to understand and should be self explanatory in most cases.

Although our topic today is on How prolong coughing would lead to Kidney's Deficiency, we are still dealing with cough with asthma, and the selected formula is Hei Xi Dan.

And this is the first time, l'm going to bring up the process of making pill or what TCM called 'dan'.  And Hei Xi Dan would unveil the curtain showing the difference in  decoction-pill-powder application.

So what causes kidney deficiency?  TCM physicians had observed from as far as ancient time upto comtemporary present that the common causes of kidney deficiency are:

  • congenital insufficiency
  • excessive labor
  • chronic illness that damages the kidney
  • aging

I'll discuss these causes in the next blog as it is necessary for the explanation of Hei Xi Dan.

So now it is very appropriate to list out the various herbs comprising the formula in treating the child with Kidney's deficiency as below:

Hei Xi

Liu Huang (Sulphur)

Chen Xiang

Hui Xiang

Pao Fu Zi

Hu Lu Ba

Yang Qi Shi

Mu Xiang

Jin Ling Zi

Po Gu Zhi(pu gu zi)

Rou Dou Gou

Rou Gui

In the next blog, l'll be discussing how and why plumbum and sulphur are used to prepare and make Hei Xi Dan with the above herbs.  The whole process will be simplied and make easy to be absorbed with the fundalmentals of Kidney's deficiency.

I'll leave you with more time to get ready for the next blog.

Best of all,

Xiong
