This is how to Analyse The Therapeutic Functions Of The Various Decoctions part 90

Hey,  I'm back to continue on the analysis of the Bao He Wan using

  • Shén QÅ«

Although  Shen Qu is selected to act as one of the 2 minister's herbs directly fuelling the desired reactions to ease indigestion, it isn't a plant by itself unlike the rest of the  herbs discussed so far in my blogs.  In actual fact, Shen Qu is a dough product cut into small pieces after 7 days of insulated fermentation.

So, without further delay, let's dive in to the analysis.  This is how to Analyse The Therapeutic Functions Of The Various Decoctions part 90.

Quite interesting topic
The dough is made of the following ingredients:

  • Wheat flour
  • Bran
  • Adzuki bean powder
  • Almond paste
  • Fresh Artemisia annua
  • Fresh Xanthium
  • Polygonum hydropiper natural juice

The above ingredients are then whipped into a dough and covered with hemp leaves to be  fermented for 7 days.  The fermented dough is then cut into small pieces and sun-dried to be ready for TCM Application.

Therefore the Shen Qu created would be of different quality due to the different combination of the ingredients quantity used.
Nevertheless the final product Shen Qu is very effective to treat:
  • Alcoholic food Stagnation especially found among alcoholic drinkers in the TCM perspective.  It would be clear after you have read through the TCM application of the various ingredients used.
So here is the list of  these  herbal ingredients and their properties  forming Shen Qu:

Adzuki bean powder(Chi Xiao Dou) is capable of detoxifying the alcoholic food Stagnation.

Fresh Artemisia Annua(Qing Hao), also known as sweet sagewort or wormwood, is a plant that can be used to make herbal tea that contains various anti-malarial, anti-cancer, anti-tuberculosis, and anti-microbial chemicals in its natural state.

Fresh Xanthium(Cang Eris an annual plant commonly known as rough cocklebur, common cocklebur, or woolgarie bur belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is used in conventional Chinese medicine for treating nasal ailments and headaches.

Polygonum hydropiper( la liao) also known as water pepper, marshpepper knotweed, arse smart or tade, is a plant of the family Polygonaceae.  The plant grows in damp places and shallow water. Cultivated varieties are eaten in East Asia for their pungent flavor.

Hemp Leaf

contains a wide range of polyphenols, terpenes, vitamins, and minerals that possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and adaptogenic properties. The foliage of the hemp plant is particularly enriched with flavonoids and phenolic acids that can positively modulate physiological responses to stress.

The first of the 2 minister's herbs which is:

Shén Qū,

  • besides performing its primary role to aid the Monarch's herb in easing indigestion especially in adult
  • Strengthen the stomach and Spleen in the TCM perspective.
