Hey, I'm back to discuss the next herb, Xuan Shen  in the list of the 2 minister's herbs for Qing Ying Tang.  So there are only 2 monarch's herbs and 4 fourth division officer's with one messenger's herb in this formula.

Obviously, the reasons for the selection of Xuan Shēn as one of the 2 minister's herb are:

  • 1)  Xuan Shen is also similar to Sheng Di, using its primary property being salty and bitter to
  • to disperse and clear heaty virus infections
  • Can Subside high feverish temperature except it is better known for nourishing the scorched as well as depleted Yin 
  • Eliminate rashes and Carbuncles








Minister's herb

  • Xuan Shen



Let's start with the threshold established so far:


Association to a Specific Meridian Channel


Xuan Shen is better known as Scrophularia Ningpoensis in Latin and only the root is used.  It is associated with:  

  • Lung
  • Stomach
  • Kidney - Meridian Channel respectively 



Specific Taste




Xuan Shēn possesses 3 tastes:
  • Salty-sweet inclined to bitterness 



Specific Properties




Next, I'll touch on the specific property of 
  • Xuan Shen 
which is Cold.






As a rule of thumb, it is very appropriate to apply:
  • (Ku Xian Gan Han Qing Re Jie Du Yang Yin ) 
whenever Xuan Shen is used.

  • Sheng Di




This is how to Analyse The Therapeutic Functions Of The Various Decoctions part sixty seven.The reasons for selection of Sheng Di as the monarch herb as it is sharing similar properties very much the same like Xi Jiao and they are: 

  • Sheng Di is also an effective remedy for clearing accumulated heat causing blood to flow out of its normal path resulting in 
  • 1) vomitting blood
  • 2) epistaxis and 
  • 3) any other blood disordered flow in the TCM perspective
  • Can Subside high feverish temperature except it is better known for nourishing the scorched as well as depleted Yin

  • Heart
  • Liver
  • Kidney - Meridian Channel respectively

  • Sweet inclined to Bitterness 


Specific Properties


The Specific Property of:

  • Sheng Di is cold



Apply  (Gan Ku Han Qing Re Liang Xue Yang Yin Sheng Jin) whenever Sheng Di is used.
