How To Analyse The Therapeutic Functions Of The Various Decoctions Part Twenty Five

Hey, I'm back to continue on today's topic which is the selection and reasons why they are the 4th Division Officer's herbs in the decoction.

The two 4th Division Officer's herbs are:

  • Wu Wei Zi
  • Fa Ban Xia

Let's analyse them in detail with the thresholds established as:

Association to the Specific Meridian Channels

Wu Wei Zi is associated with the following meridian channels:

  • Lung
  • Kidneys
  • Heart - Meridian Channels respectively

Fa Ban Xia is associated with the following meridian channels:

  • Spleen
  • Stomach
  • Lung - meridian channels respectively

The scientific name for the 2 herbs are:

Wu Wei Zi - is better known as Schisandra Chinensis Baill and only the ripened fruit from the northern regions is used.
There is one very important point to take note of;
that is the place of Wu Wei Zi's production.  That is also the reason why some decoctions work better than others with everything remaining the same.  So it also depends on from which fraudulent merchant you had purchased the herbs, who imports from the southern region of mainland China to get market share by selling at a lower price.
Therefore only the northern region harvested Wu Wei Zi is used as authentic herbs.

The primary healing properties of  Wu Wei Zi are as follows:
  • Subdue prolonged cough due to overall deficiency
  • Hydrate bodily fluid and converge to reduce spontaneous sweating
  • Eliminate nocturnal emission
  • Calm insomnia and heart palpitation

Fa Ban Xia - is better known as Pinellia Ternata and only the thickened underground stem(rhizoma) is used.

The primary healing properties of  Fa Ban Xia are as follows:
  • Subdue prolonged cough due to accumulated phlegm
  • Prevent and reduce vomiting especially due to an unusual upsurge of stomach Qi
  • Eliminate carbuncle

Specific Taste

The specific taste of these 2 herbs are similar as follow:
  • Wu Wei Zi - Sour
  • Fa Ban Xia - Pungent or spicy taste

Apply (Suan Wen Lian Fei Zhi Sheng Ning Xin) whenever Wu Wei Zi is used.

Apply (Xin Wen Hua Tan Zhi Ke Zhi Tu San Jie) whenever Fa Ban Xia is used.

Specific Property

Next, I'll touch on the specific property of:

  • Wu Wei Zi

which is warm.

The Specific Property of:
  • Fa Ban Xia
which is warm

Together they would complement the Monarch's herbs to warm the Lung and at the same time remove this sticky phlegm.

I'll leave you with more time to digest this blog and would be back soonest to discuss the combined effect of Da Zao and Sheng Jiang.

Best of all,

Xiong
