This is how to analyze the therapeutic functions of the various Decoctions part 118

Hey, I'm back after a few days to analyze the second 4th divisional officer's herb in An Gong Niu Huang Wan which is Zhen Zhu.






Relief Shock and Resuscitation



We are still within the perimeter of the above and not drift away.



It is here to complement with Zhu Sha which we had had analyzed in the previous blogs.

Primarily. it should carry out it's duty as 4th divisional officer's herb to assist with the therapeutic functions of the monarch's herbs to calm the anxious mood of the child.


In another words, more importantly, this means and applies to pacify the shock from epilepsy and limbs jerkings in our topic.


Pearl


It's actually an oyster pearl formed after slightly stimulated and is the real pearl that would be wear as pearl necklace.

The 3 types of oysters that produces the pearl which would be then ground to powder to be used as pearl powder are:







Let's start with the threshold established so far:

 

The reasons for selecting Zhen Zhu as the 4th divisional officer's herb are:

  • 1) Zhen Zhu is sedative and is also powerful in overcoming anxious mood.
  • 2) Zhen Zhu is cold and salty by virtue and so it can relieve sore eye and eliminate pterygium as well in the TCM perspective.
  • 3) and therefore it would also close up wound and heal festering ulcers.



Association to a Specific Meridian Channel


Zhen Zhu is associated with the


  • Heart
  • Liver- meridian channels respectively




Specific Taste


Zhen Zhu possesses a sweet inclined to salty taste.




Specific Properties


Next, I'll touch on the specific property of Zhen Zhu which is cold.


  

As a rule of thumb, it is very appropriate to apply:

(Zhèn xīn dìng jīng, qīng gān chú yì, shōuliǎn shēng jī ) whenever Zhen Zhu is used.

Hey, I'm back to continue on the analysis of the next Minister's herb in An Gong Niu Huang Wan which is Yu Jin.







Yu Jin is the sun-dried sliced herb as shown in the picture above.  It's a flowering plant in the ginger family Zingiberaceae. It is a perennial, rhizomatous, herbaceous plant native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia that requires temperatures between 20 and 30 °C and high annual rainfall to thrive.

There are 3 species in the family which are used as Yu Jin and they are:

And it is commonly better known as edible turmeric.

The reasons why Yu Jin is selected as the ministers' herb which is further break into 3 parts as below:

1) it is a similar natural powerful regulative remedy for :


A) distending pain in Chest,ribs and the abdomen, 

B) Aub: (1) oligomenorrhea 

              (2) polymenorrhea

              (3) amenorrhea 

              (4) dysmenorrhea, due mainly to accumulated Qi in the liver turning into heat in the TCM perspective. (Read liver fundamentals) AUB refer to as abnormal uterine bleeding.

2) it is a very effective remedy for 

3) it is a regulative remedy for:
     Bleeding(haemorrhagic) 
due to accumulated heat from the liver in the TCM perspective (slightly different from Qi accumulated turning into heat)

Association to a Specific Meridian Channel


Yu Jin is the rhizome of the perennial plant and therefore only the underground root is used.

It is associated with:  

  • Heart 
  • Liver
  • Gall bladder - Meridian Channel respectively 




Specific Taste

The specific taste of Yu Jin is bitter and pungent.





Specific Properties

The Specific Property of Yu Jin is cold.





As for the rule of thumb:




Apply (Huó xuè zhǐ tòng, xíng qì jiě yù, liáng xiě qīng xīn, lì dǎn tuì huáng) whenever Yu Jin is used.
