Hey, I'm back after a short break and how is everybody? Today, I would rather do a quick revision with you because it is quite puzzling why ancient physicians were so intelligent as to use Ju Hua and Sang Ye as the minister's  herbs in Resuscitation.

Ju Hua and Sang Ye

Bai Shao and Sheng Di

Division 4 Officer

• The division 4 Officer's herb coordinates with the monarch and minister herbs to enhance the therapeutic effect of the decoction as well as directly treat minor complications.   
• It would also slow down the strong effect of monarch and minister herbs.  

to act more on as the division 4th officer's herb indirectly fuelling the desired reactions to calm spasms.

The scientific name for the Shao Yao is: Paeonia Lactiflora or better known as the Peony plant and only the root is used.  A peony is a bright red flower.    

First of all, Shao Yao is divided into 2 types namely:

• Bai Shao - (white)
• Chi Shao - (red)

The difference between them is:

• The former is cultivated and thus becomes plump and straight,
• The latter is a natural wild herb and so is thin.

Their specific property would be to tonify and revive the liver's functions.

Sheng Di is also an effective remedy for clearing accumulated heat causing blood to flow out of its normal path resulting in 

• 1) vomitting blood
• 2) epistaxis and 
• 3) any other blood disordered flow in the TCM perspective
• Can Subside high feverish temperature which is interpreted as better known for nourishing the scorched as well as depleted Yin 

Together Bai Shao and Sheng Di regulate the body fluid and tonify the Scorched Yin.  On the Resuscitation platform,  they served to facilitate the relaxation of the liver functions in the TCM perspective. 

The next 4th Division Officer's herb is

• Bei Mu

As specified in the blog part 59, the pathological situation lies in the Qi level, where

• Fever in particular, 
• Sore throat
• Pain
• Swelling and thirsty

are the results caused by the heat accumulated.  

Bei Mu would complement with Zhu Ru of which would be analysed in the next blog.

Chuan Bei Mu is more suitably and applied as an effective lung deficient and prolong cough remedy. 

However, there must have significant requirements for having another pair of 4th divisional officer's herbs to complement the Earlier pair.

What does Chuan Bei Mu coordinate in the whole Decoction?  It serves to dissolve phlegm that block the air passageway, thus allowing a better resuscitation realized.

• Gou Teng

 

Gou Teng is an evergreen Rubiaceae plant which has hooks grown at the junction of the young shoot with the leaves.

The Specific Property of:

Gou Teng is slightly cold.

As for the rule of thumb:

Apply (Xí Fēng Zhǐ Jing, Qīn  Rè Píng Gān.) whenever Gou Teng is used.

• Ling Jiao Gou Teng Tang,

• Ling Yang Jiao which is the horn of the Saiga Tatarica Antelope.

Ling Yang Jiao is cold.

Apply (Píng Gān Xí Fēng, Qīng Gān Míng Mù, Qīng Rè Jiě Dú) whenever Ling Yang Jiao is used.
