This is how to analyze the therapeutic functions of the various Decoctions part 124

Hey, I'm back after a few days to analyze one of the three 4th divisional officer's herb in Zhi Bao Dan, which is Hu Bo.

The other 2 herbs in the same group are Zhu Sha and Niu Huang in which we had analyzed in the previous blogs 

Nevertheless, it's a good practice to list out the importance of their functions here:

• Niu Huang - being bitter and cold nevertheless is capable of awakening unconsciousness via it's cool property 
• Zhu Sha - being sedative, capable to awake the unconsciousness with Hu Bo.

Relief Shock and Resuscitation

We are still within the perimeter of the above and not drift away.

Hu Bo is here to complement with Zhu Sha which we had had analyzed in the previous blogs.

Primarily. it should carry out it's duty as 4th divisional officer's herb to assist with the therapeutic functions of the monarch's herbs to calm the anxious mood of the child.

In another words, more importantly, this means and applies to pacify the shock from epilepsy and limbs jerkings in our topic.

Pine Resin 

It's actually the Resin of Pinus genus or commonly known as pine resin and they belong to the plant family called Pinaceae.  And this resin forms Hu Bo after many years in buried strata.

And this is how to analyze the therapeutic functions of the various Decoctions part 124.

Let's start with the threshold established so far:

The reasons for selecting Hu Bo as the 4th divisional officer's herb are:

• 1)it complement Zhu Sha effectively and is also powerful in overcoming anxious mood.
• 2)is a natural remedy for amenorrhea due to blood stasis
• 3)and by virtue of its direct association with the bladder,  is able to relieve urinary hesitancy and retention 

Association to a Specific Meridian Channel

Hu Bo is associated with the

• Heart
• Liver
• Bladder - meridian channels respectively

Specific Taste

Hu Bo possesses a sweet taste.

Specific Properties

Next, I'll touch on the specific property of Hu Bo which is neutral.

  

As a rule of thumb, it

 is very appropriate to apply:

(Dìng jīng ānshén, huóxuè sàn yū, lìniào tōng lín. ) whenever Hu Bo is used.
