This is how to analyse the therapeutic functions of the various decoctions part 136

Hey, I'm back to continue on today's topic which is the selection and reasons why they are the minister's herb namely;

  1. Pao Fu Zi
  2. Rou Gui
  3. Yang Qi Shi 
  4. Po Gu Zhi 
  5. Hu Lu Ba 
found in Hei Xi Dan.












The scientific name for:
  1. Pao Fu Zi is Aconitum Carmichaeli and only the young root is used.
  2. Rou Gui is Cinnamomum Cassia and only the branch's bark is used.
  3. Yang Qi Shi is a type of mineral ore and better known as Actinolite.
  4. Po Gu Zhi is Psoralea Corylifolia and only the seed is used.
  5. Hu Lu Ba is Trigonella Foenum Greacum and only the ripen seed is used.



Association to the Specific Meridian Channel



Pao Fu Zi is associated with the:
Heart
Spleen 
Kidney - meridian channel respectively

Rou Gui is associated with the:
Heart 
Liver 
Spleen 
Kidney - meridian channel respectively 

Yang Qi Shi is associated with the:
Kidney meridian channel only 
 

Po Gu Zhi is associated with the:

Spleen 
Kidney - meridian channel respectively


Hu Lu Ba is associated with the:
Liver
Kidney - meridian channel respectively 


Specific Taste 


The Specific Taste of: 

Pao Fu Zi - is bitter 
Rou Gui - is sweet and pungent
Yang Qi Shi - salty
Po Gu Zhi - bitter and pungent
Hu Lu Ba - bitter 

Specific Property


The specific property of :

Pao Fu Zi - warm 
Rou Gui - warm 
Yang Qi Shi - lukewarm
Po Gu Zhi - warm
Hu Lu Ba - warm



Suitable Application 



Pao Fu Zi is suitably used for these purposes:
  • Observed sweating profusely, temperature keeps dropping and weak pulsation; needed to sustain Cardinal Yang by purging and clearing pulse blockage.
  • Observed Yang deficiency through out. It travels downward to rekindle renal heat to fuel the spleen and cardinal Yang.
  • Relieve Arthralgia especially with cold joint.


Rou Gui is suitably used for these purposes:

  • Observed Yang deficiency throughout. It Travels downwards to rekindle renal heat to fuel the spleen and cardinal Yang.
  • Warm up Abdominal cold pain leading to resultant Dysmenorrhea and Amenorrea
  • Treat Gangrene from Yin due to Qi and Xue level subjected to severe cold 
  • Treat swollen Carbuncle especially wrapping pus and already spread out in the body


Yang Qi Shi is suitably used for these purposes:
  • Treat Impotent 
  • Warm up Cold womb or cold Uterus when worsen can lead to LPD (luteal phase defect) in the TCM perspective.


Po Gu Zhi is suitably used for these purposes:
  • Treat Impotent 
  • Relieve nocturnal emission, Enuresis and Incontinence (frequent urination)
  • Stop Diarrhoea due to Yang deficiency from the kidneys and spleen


Hu Lu Ba is suitably used for these purposes:

Treat kidney's Yang deficiency throughout coupled with wetness and coldness  




Rule of the Thumb:

Apply (Xin Re Hui Yang Jiu Ni Bu Huo Zhu Yang San Han Zi Tong) when Pao Fu Zi is used.

Apply (Xin Gan Re Bu Huo Zhu Yang San Han Zi Tong) when Rou Gui is used

Apply (Xian Wen Wen Shen Zhuang Yang)when Yang Qi Shi is used

Apply ( Ku Xin Wen Bu Shen Zhuang Yang Gu Jing Suo Niao Wen Pi Zhi Xie) when Po Gu Zhi is used

Apply (Ku Wen Wen Shen Yang Zhu Han Shi) when Hu Lu Ba is used.
