This is how to analyze the therapeutic functions of the various Decoctions part 121

Hey, I'm back after a short break and now to analyze the next new formula called Zhi Bao Dan which rank third in term of cooling effect of it's category. The second one which is better known as Zhǐ Xue Dan, however is not listed as our applied treatment.   We are not going to study it until as and when necessary.  Who is the coolest will be announced later.

As for now, we have completed the analysis of An Gong Niu Huang Wan with one little promise to touchup on the edible gold leaf.

So, what's gold leaf and it's effect in the pill? First and foremost, gold leaf is actually a very pure gold foil and cut into small pieces to be added to the mixture to give a golden appearance.

Gold leaf is not easily dissolvable unless in an acidic liquid which means it only add-on as a cosmetic attraction.   Since An Gong Niu Huang Wan is effective in treating stroke inducing coma, the golden appearance can fetch a higher price like an elixir.

This gold leaf would be passed out via defecation and so I wouldn't add it to our Decoction for analysis.

Hence the silver leaf would be removed from our application in the next pill because of the similar chemical property like gold leaf, namely;

Zhi Bao Dan

Difference

Zhi Bao Dan consists of 2 other aromatic herb to awake the unconsciousness whereas An Gong Niu Huang Wan uses more cooling herbs to regain consciousness.

The observation is quite similar to situation like An Gong Niu Huang Wan treatment where;

When the sweltering heat becomes so severe that heat had penetrated the Ying Xue level, so much so that convulsion would turn into unconsciousness.

The  determinative observation is;

  • fist tightly grabbed
  • and clench the teeth tightly.

Why is this so?  It is due to heat had invaded the pericardium and related phlegm is blocking the air passage way in the TCM perspective.

Application of Zhi Bao Dan is the correct choice over An Gong Niu Huang Wan.

So, without further delay let's dive in to analyse the next formula of our topic and to list out the various herbs in the pill as:

First and foremost, we had done quite a bit on the reasons for these pathological phenomenas such as:
  • high fever,
  • irritability,
  • delirium,
  • stroke-induced coma, and
  • infantile convulsions

to take place is due to this pathogenic heat had invaded the pericardium in the TCM perspective.
They are classified as pathogenic heat obstruction and that's why we needed to use Zhǐ Bao Dan to pacify the nerves and eliminate all these obstructions.

The analysis of Zhi Bao Dan will commence in the next blog with the 1st monarch's herb An Xi Xiang which is commonly known as  benzoin.

Just before I would leave you, I will list out the 9 herbs altogether formulating the mystifying Zhi Bao Dan.

An Xi Xiang
Bing Pian
She Xiang
Niu Huang
Xi Jiao
Dai Mao
Zhu Sha
Hu Bo
Xiong Huáng

I would like to leave you now with this blog so as to give you more time to digest it.

There are so many other blogs out there but none teach you why, when and where to use the relevant herbs, only I give the reasons for 3 W; why, when and where.

As a rule of thumb;

 (apply:- Fang Xiang Kai Qiao, Qing Re Jie Du) whenever Zhǐ Bao Dan is used.

Best of all
