Hey, I'm back to continue on how to analyse the therapeutic functions of:
  • Bai Hu Tang

In the last blog, surprisingly we had analysed the function of Zhi Mu as the minister's herb in relation to Shi Gao which is the Monarch's herb. Although, Zhi Gan Cao and Shi Gao are both already analysed in the previous blogs published in November 2021 and September 2022 respectively, it becomes imperative to move into another level here to supplement our discussion. I'll use the combination of specific property and taste to determine the selection of the herb's classification.

In our previous analysis, we explored the surprising role of Zhi Mu as the minister's herb in conjunction with Shi Gao, the monarch's herb.

While Zhi Gan Cao and Shi Gao have been previously discussed in blogs published in November 2021 and In our previous analysis, we explored the surprising role of Zhi Mu as the September 2022, respectively, this discussion aims to elevate our understanding.

While Zhi Gan Cao and Shi Gao have been previously discussed in blogs published in November 2021 and September 2022, respectively, this discussion aims to elevate our understanding by delving into a more advanced level.

Our approach will involve classifying herbs based on a combination of their specific properties and tastes. This method will be crucial for supplementing our ongoing discussion.

The combination of specific property and taste

Today, I'll touch on the method of how to nourish Yin to supplement the inadequacy.
  • Bitter - of Shi Gao and Zhi Mu
  • Cold - of Shi Gao and Zhi Mu
  • Lubrication effect - of Zhi Mu
If many pathological situations are present at the same time, the primary importance would be the body temperature as it is the body resistance to combat the invading virus or bacteria causing this temperature change.  Therefore the selection of Shi Gao as the monarch herb is due to the prime treatment property of Shi Gao to handle and reduce the feverish temperature.
Hence,if you like, you may jot down that:
  • SHI GAO is a dedicated herb to resolve heat from Yang Ming
The secondary treatment like the lubricating effect of Zhi Mu to supplement the inadequacy of Yin would be used for the selection be classified as the minister's herb.
So:
  • bitterness double up with cold and lubricating the dryness would tonify Yin to backup the deficiency.

However, the analysis of both Shi Gao and Zhi Gan Cao will not be repeated here and thus please refer to them as a good way to refresh memories.

Therefore, it's most probable to analyse Jing Mi now.  We now begin with the threshold established.  This is how to analyse the therapeutic functions of the various decoctions part 51.
